Artificial Intelligence isn’t just changing the way we write code. It’s changing the way we interact with software.
And it’s leading us toward a concept that, until recently, seemed futuristic: Invisible Software.
For decades, we’ve learned how to use applications. When we want to make a payment, we open our banking app. When we want to book a hotel, we open a booking platform. When we want to review sales performance, we log into a CRM.
For every task, there’s an application. For every application, there’s an interface. But we’re increasingly seeing that this model is beginning to change.
Today, it’s enough to ask an AI assistant to summarize a document, analyze data, or draft an email.
Tomorrow, it’s not difficult to imagine asking it to book a trip, make a payment, or manage an entire business process while it communicates seamlessly behind the scenes with the systems involved. At that point, the application doesn’t disappear. It simply becomes invisible.
Applications aren’t disappearing. Their role is evolving.
When we talk about Invisible Software, we don’t mean that applications will cease to exist. Banks will continue to operate their platforms. Companies will continue to rely on ERP, CRM, and other Enterprise systems. Public institutions will continue to build digital services.
What changes is the way we interact with them. For many of us, the application will no longer be the destination. It will become the infrastructure quietly working in the background.
Just as today no one thinks about the protocols that make sending an email possible, tomorrow we may no longer think about which application is executing a task. We’ll simply care about the outcome.
We’re Moving from “User Interface” to “Intent Interface”
For decades, we’ve designed interfaces that people had to learn how to use. Today, an entirely new way of interacting with technology is emerging.
Instead of telling software every step it needs to follow, we’re simply telling it the objective.
No longer: “Click here, fill out this form, and confirm.”
Instead: “Book the best flight for next week.”
This shift may seem small. In reality, it changes the way software is designed. From interfaces that wait for commands… To systems that understand intent.
Architecture Is Becoming More Important Than the Interface
If users no longer interact directly with an application, then its value is no longer measured by design alone.
It’s measured by its ability to communicate.
To integrate.
To exchange data securely. To collaborate with other systems and with Artificial Intelligence. That’s why APIs, modern architecture, and interoperability are becoming increasingly strategic. Software is no longer an isolated product. It’s part of an ecosystem.
This Shift Has Already Begun
Many of us already use AI to summarize documents, analyze information, or prepare work materials. The next step isn’t simply doing more with AI.
It’s delegating entire processes to it. As AI Agents and the standards that allow them to communicate with existing systems continue to evolve, we’ll need to interact with applications less and less directly.
Software won’t become less important. Quite the opposite. It will become so deeply embedded in our daily lives that we’ll notice it less and less. And perhaps that’s the greatest success any technology can achieve.
As Ermal Beqiri, Founder of ALSoft, says:
“The future of software isn’t about demanding more interaction from people. It’s about working so seamlessly in the background that people remember the outcome they achieved, not the application they used.”
Perhaps the next revolution won’t be the application with the most features or the most modern interface. Perhaps the real revolution will come when technology becomes so natural that we forget we’re even using it.
